Transformative Climate Advocacy program for ARTists with Simon Divecha.

Who are we in a changing climate?

What are we called to do?

Who are we called to be?

These are some of the questions Abigail Lynam, Annick de Witt and Simon Divecha bring to a new program on Transformative Climate Advocacy.  See their video invitation below and for the free info session January 18.  Simon explains:

“As action researchers we know there is an intimate interconnection between how we understand and conduct our research plus the impacts arising from it. That is “knowledge creation integrates personal/reflexive, interpersonal/relational, and impersonal knowledge… shape[ing] the social world…”*

Our worlds shape us too. That includes how we experience the meta-crises around us. For example, the very pressures of climate disruption may function as a catalyst that awakens humanity to the kind of planetary awareness and interdependent global actions that we need to create life-sustaining societies.

With regard to this crisis, it’s become almost a cliché to say that we need a mind-shift or a paradigm change. This signifies an increasing recognition that the most important barriers—and supports—for transformative change are, in fact, interior.

I, Simon, experienced this vividly reflected from the November 2021 Glasgow Climate COP. The measurable results, benchmarks for outcomes and action, are far less than what we need. Attendee’s  attitudes and emotional outlooks, paradoxically, were overwhelming positive. For the first time many people I met felt we, humanity, can rise to this challenge.

To support us all as change makers, ARTists, it is becoming clear that new approaches are needed—approaches beyond technology and traditional (newtonian) research that are supporting a more profound transformation towards sustainable, regenerative and life-enhancing societies.

That’s why I’m involved with the Transformative Climate Advocacy program. To explore further such new approaches and focus in on the interior dimensions of change. We are aiming to:

  • Expand our understanding of cultural and psychological development (i.e. of how mindsets and worldviews change and evolve) and apply these insights to climate advocacy and change work;

  • Support our own psychological development and inner transformation, to deepen impact and empower ourselves as change-makers;

  • ‘Lean into’ the magical and mystical, to tap into the deeper purpose and greater potential that’s called for in this transformative historical moment.

Join us for an informative conversation with the Transformative Climate Advocacy faculty. Bring your questions to this online meeting space, explore your relationship to climate change, meet other change-makers and get a taste of what we’ll be exploring and experiencing in the program. It will be fun!
