Towards right to work by Arsha V Sathyan
It is a pleasure to accept Arsha V Sathyan’s manuscript entitled “Towards right to work: A reflexive analysis on an action research” for publication in the Action Research Journal. Have a look!
Arsha writes: “My Action Research journey began at the Centre for Development Practice, Ambedkar University Delhi. As I delved into the course outline of the MPhil Development Practice, I was thrilled to discover that it offered a research program based on action research—an uncommon approach in conventional Indian academia. The prospect of immersing myself in a rural village for research purposes was exhilarating. Soon, Action Research and Dudhera village became the most passionate chapter of my life.
However, the most vivid memory of my journey isn’t from the research itself, but from the villagers’ heartfelt farewell on my last day. Arsha’s photo accompanies this blog.
Unexpected and deeply emotional, it hinted at the powerful bond that had formed despite the initial challenges. Initially, the excitement about Dudhera was like a flickering flame. Daily life felt ordinary, even monotonous. Yet, with each passing day, a silent transformation unfolded. Relationships bloomed, tentative at first, then vibrant.
This paper wouldn’t be a stuffy academic paper. It serves as a narrative of a participatory action research journey, where I, alongside the MGNREGA workers of Dudhera, marched to the beat of collective action for their right to work.
Through the process of Action Research, I discovered that Action Research wasn’t just about studying others—it was about expanding oneself. It meant weaving oneself into the lives of others, and inturn, allowing them to become the threads that enrich our own story. It is about learning and growing together through shared experiences.”
