Starting small and building out with Ernie Stringer: Personal insights into action research and educational change
Post by Eric Dustman
Ernie Stringer is an action researcher with great heart and compassion. He has spent the last five decades expressing it to others with far-reaching impact. Through an interview with Ernie and a synthesis of the ideas he expressed, Ernie’s story of commitment to community development and educational change will inspire you.
“Starting small and building out with Ernie Stringer: Personal insights into action research and educational change” provides insight into Ernie’s diverse and devoted career with AR. Because Ernie is a leading scholar and practitioner in the field, his wisdom and experience will strengthen the ability of other action researchers and citizens to create “big differences from small actions.”
As young action researchers just entering the field, we feel fortunate to have been afforded the opportunity to share in Ernie’s experiences with him. His knowledge and care for people, and being present with them in problem-solving, are invigorating and will continue to affect both of us as we take steps towards investigating and exploring the world with others. Like Ernie, we are hopeful that our efforts encourage ideas and questions and evoke change that creates more opportunities for those we work with to develop new kinds of learning communities. We are hopeful that the words shared here are ones that will offer other scholars, community members, and you the same.
