Approaching Complex Problems with Listening and Learning – Andrea Rodericks
Andrea Rodericks is an action research practitioner in the philanthropy and international aid ecosystems. Andrea’s work is to deepen learning and shape conditions for more hopeful, equitable and regenerative futures.
In the first couple of decades of her career, Andrea worked with CARE International – the large international NGO – in program development, design, and management roles in Asia, southern Africa, the US and the UK. More recently and in independent practice, Andrea has become interested in power, how it shifts and the importance of inner work and is currently engaged with:
1) Synergos, a US NGO, working in Bangladesh in support of child welfare.
2) Philanthropy Dialogues, where Andrea is building and co-founding a learning and action platform to shift power in the philanthropy ecosystem and empower local leadership for climate action. Running an action learning lab with funders, intermediaries and community led organisations in Asia, Africa and Latin America, all involved in some experimentation on this topic.
In our podcast Andrea equates action research with an inquiry approach to systems change which allows for resilience in the face of growing complexity. She explains that she calls clients to do inner work also to support reflection and better listening which in turn helps them meet their own goals.
Andrea’s guiding intention is to grow more systems in which people are learning and collaborating and which will also likely lead to less stress all round!
