After the pyre. Notes and survey follow up.
Following up our August Lúnasa pyre. Some notes and a short survey follow…

Here’s what happened at the pyre
We celebrated, reflected on, and metaphorically toasted the journey and contributions of AR+. Hilary provided context on the evolution and significance of AR+, highlighting its role as a global, boundary-pushing community that has highlighted relationality, reflexivity in service of eco-social transitions.
Simon and Alex designed the process so participants (old friends and new, some stepping in for the first time) broke into small groups to share their experiences, celebrate what inspired them, and consider what to metaphorically release. The synaesthesics among us might imagine “petrichor” — the pleasant smell that arrives with first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather.

The atmosphere was one of gratitude and reflection, with an emphasis on the emergence of new possibilities, and a sense of transmutation rather than an ending. This begs a follow up so we may understand more clearly what is wanted from AR+ in 2027 and your own interest in participating and shaping that.
The main discussion focused on toasting the boundaryless and bounded aspects of the community, its creativity, curiosity, and the deep relationships formed. Participants shared personal “aromas” they were taking forward such as warmth, petrichor, and sea breeze. These symbolized nutrients harvested from their involvement.
